Procedures for Filing Criminal Charges

 
YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OF AGE
 
     
 
YOU CAN NOT FILE CHARGES ON A JUVENILE IN THE JUSTICE COURT, YOU MUST CONTACT THE JUVENILE COURT
 
     
 
WE TAKE MISDEMEANOR AND FELONY CHARGES
 
 
THE DIFFERENCE IN THE TWO ARE:
 
     
1.
MISDEMEANOR - YOU CAN SERVE UP TO 1 YEAR IN THE COUNTY JAIL AND BE FINED UP TO $1,000.00 PLUS COURT COSTS  
2.
FELONY - YOU CAN SERVE TIME IN PRISON PLUS PAY FINES AND COSTS  
     

STEPS TO FILE A MISDEMEANOR:

   
1.
YOU MUST HAVE A PHOTO I.D.  
2.
YOU MUST PROVIDE AN ADDRESS WHERE DEFENDANT IS LOCATED  
3.
YOU MUST PROVIDE IDENTIFYING INFORMATION ON DEFENDANT  
4.
YOU MUST PROVIDE DETAILS OF THE INCIDENT  
     

STEPS TO FILE A FELONY:

   
1.

First step in filing a felony charge is speaking with an investigator with the Pearl River County Sheriff's office. The investigator will then refer victim to Justic Court

 
2.
YOU MUST HAVE A PHOTO I.D.  
3.
YOU MUST PROVIDE AN ADDRESS WHERE DEFENDANT IS LOCATED  
4.
YOU MUST PROVIDE IDENTIFYING INFORMATION ON DEFENDANT  
5.
YOU MUST PROVIDE DETAILS OF THE INCIDENT  
6. YOU MUST HAVE A COPY OF THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE REPORT  
7. YOU MUST KNOW THE ACTUAL CHARGES THE OFFICER ADVISED YOU TO FILE
